Emerson Red Clover Seed Sale Opens to All Buyers
Foundation seed for Emerson red clover will be sold this year to any individual or concern without grower certification. Past shortages limited buyers to those who could certify crops, but ample supply now allows unrestricted sale while still encouraging certification. Emerson red clover originated from O Emerson of Marion County in 1928.

Emerson red clover shows strong winter hardiness and yield
Tested by the U S Department of Agriculture, Emerson red clover ranks high among 80 strains for winter hardiness and seed production. It features hairy stems and leaf traits that resist leaf hopper damage but requires strict certification to prevent mixture. Iowa State College’s C P Wilsie endorses it as comparable to top red clovers and recommends early spring sowing with oats as a companion crop.
