Kutish to Address Initial Adult Farm Class Here Tuesday

Francis A. Kutish Iowa State college extension economist will speak at the kickoff session of the adult farmers night school Tuesday night. The meeting sponsored with Hardin county extension service includes members of the New Provigelite adult agriculture class. Kutish will discuss Farm Outlook for 1950, after returning from a Washington D C economists meeting. Other topics this year include farmers income tax returns soil conservation fertilizers rural electrification livestock diseases corn borer control and farm program legislation.

Hardin Countians in Drake Messiah Chorus of 500

Dorothy Schwarack of Whitten and Jesse Knight of Steamboat Rock are part of Drake university chorus of 500 in The Messiah. The presentation of Handel's oratorio will be Dec. 11 at KRNT theater Des Moines, a Christmas tradition in Des Moines for 59 years with last year’s two performances drawing 10,000 people.

Service Held for Frank Pierson, 80

A service was held Wednesday for Frank Pierson, 80, who died at the county home Monday. The Rev. Dewey Lamprecht officiated. Burial followed in the cemetery near the home. Pierson, born in Sweden on December 30, 1868, came to America about 30 years ago and left no known relatives.

Young Farmers Open Evening Session With 13 Enrollees

In the high school building the young farmers night school began its first session devoted to course organization. Messiah Concert Set for December 18 in Steamboat Rock

Handel’s Messiah will be performed at 8 p m on Sunday December 18 in Steamboat Rock. Marion van Dyk directs a joint effort of two school music departments and local churches with guest artists Ruth van Dyke Cakaloosa tenor Dr Tempel bass Jose Primus both from Steamboat Rock. Delinquent Tax Sale To Be Held Monday

Delinquent tax sale set for Monday at 19 a.m. in Hardin county will offer remaining items from the delinquent list at the county treasurer W. H. Lepley’s office. Lepley expects more than half to be removed before the sale as taxpayers flock to settle overdue accounts.

Union Company Pushes Work On Exchange

Twelve men work on installations for the Union Central Cooperative Telephone association preparing the new exchange for service. The system should be in use before Christmas with 186 town subscribers, 147 farm lines, and 28 Bangor-line customers totaling 361 phones. Free service links with nearby towns may continue. tolls expected for Union hub pairs. The plan envisions every patron as a stockholder with common battery phones replacing central ringing eventually extending to farm lines within eight miles of Union. Union formed 1948 with a 25-year franchise granted 1951. Edward W. Lundy presides with Gy Fitzgerald, W. Conn secretary-treasurer, and board members.

Town Valuations Stay Unchanged by Tax Commission

The state tax commission ordered no changes to Hardin county town property and building assessments, keeping values as submitted while 59 counties were equalized. Twenty eight counties gained increases including Marshall. Hardin and Grundy were left unchanged. Rural lands and buildings in Hardin were directed to a 10 percent reduction, following a prior blanket 30 percent cut. Tax collection delays push payment date to around February 2 as counties finalize millage based on total needs.

Judge Hill presides in district court cases

Judge G R Hill of Clarion conducts sessions Monday and Tuesday with jurors reporting next week. The docket includes an automobile crash damage suit, a marriage annulment ruling, a $202.50 fault judgment, a falsifying to be an officer charge against Louis Poortinga, a continuing case for Van A Graham, a mortgage foreclosure against M O Pierce, default judgments for Dra Nyquist and Shorts, Carnation Co against Melvin Perkins, and a divorce remarry consent for Ralph Brightwell.

Children’s Home Drive Underway in Hardin County

The Iowa Children’s Home Society drive, led by Mrs. Floyd Bahr of Iowa Falls as county chair, aims to raise 750 for Hardin County toward a statewide goal of 135,000. The society, founded in 1886, has aided over 18,000 children, including 160 in Hardin County.

Mrs Agnes Trotter Dies After Illness in Eldora

Agnes Trotter widow of Civil War Captain Harvey B. Trotter died Tuesday night at Eldora Memorial hospital after thirteen months as a patient. Services were at Blairsburg Congregational Church with interment in Blairsburg. She leaves a daughter Mrs E H Lundy and sons Ernest Elmer and Dale, plus 15 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

New District Court Cases Filed Including Divorce Petition

New district court filings include Mary Della Winters of Sherman Township seeking a divorce from Vernon Dale Winters alleging cruelty and seeking custody of an unborn child. A counter suit by Barbara M. Adams of Newton against L. M. Blair of Iowa Falls seeks 5000 dollars for damages and 29 for hospital costs from a February 14, 1949 automobile collision. The Adams claim cites injuries such as a knee cut, kneecap fracture, and bruises. Earlier, L. M. Blair and Amanda Blair filed petitions against Dr. L. P. Adams for 2852 dollars related to the same accident, alleging negligence.

Eldora safety devices demo at high school Monday

Frank Ulish of the Iowa Department of Public Safety will bring a portable safety device unit for drivers to Eldora High School on Monday with demonstrations of the devices. The El dora Township Farm Bureau meets next Tuesday at the community house with a 6:30 potluck supper and a farewell for the Burl Crecellus family headed to Florida. School leaders to attend Cedar Falls meeting

F K Schmidt Eldora superintendent of schools and Earl Harmon high school principal will attend a North Iowa Cedar League meeting at Cedar Falls Thursday.

Officers Re-Elected by Fair Association at Annual Meeting

Hardin County Agricultural Society reelected all officers and four directors at the annual meeting held here. R. A. Scott remained president with James Bales as vice president Howard Alfee as treasurer and C W Haase as secretary all residents of Eldora. Three year terms went to C T Rierson Radcliffe Walter Hauser Whitten Glen Sheldone Figers and Ed Lawler Town Falls. Richard Pulse was elected extension director to fill the vacancy from EB Rosenberger. Holdovers include Wilson Hadley New Providence Dale F Shater Iowa Falls Leo Megan and Harry Marks. Pulse will serve with other officers until 1982 and Huase will attend State Agricultural Society meeting at Des Moines December 14. 1950 fair dates were tentatively set for August 14 week.

Ames Students Here For Home Economics Study

Twenty Iowa State college juniors and seniors majoring in education and planning to teach home economics visited Eldora high school to study the department. A similar Ames group will visit again next week. Gretus Baker pleaded guilty to operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license and served two days in the county jail. Raca Woolson of Houghton Mifflin Publishing taught classes to demonstrate correct usage of the English texts used at Eldora junior high.

Dance recital to feature Hardin pupils in Eldora show

The second annual Jane Dutton dance recital will be staged tonight in the Eldora high school auditorium at 8 p m. Local children form the core of the talent with thirty Hardin county pupils plus five Toledo students and two guest artists. Lucille Rosenberg will accompany at the piano.

Owasa Boy 13 Is Polio Patient In 1948

Hardin county reports its 27th polio case of 1948. Wilbur Wheat’s son Dirk 13 from Owasa developed bulbar polio and was taken to Iowa City last week. After care, his condition was reported satisfactory with crisis passed. County nurse Evelyn Olson advised keeping Owasa school open and enforcing health measures. Harold Honeck, 84, also hospitalized with polio remains in care.
