Hardin REC Approved For $580000 Grant

A $580000 Rural Electrification Administration loan to Hardin County Rural Electric Cooperative in Iowa Falls was announced by Congressman Grassley. The funding will repair March 1975 storm damage and fund five year improvements including underground wiring to tie substations, with cost next to be covered by additional financing.

Whitehead Seeks Third Term On Iowa Valley Board

Morris R. Whitehead of New Providence seeks his third term as director of District 2 on the Iowa Valley Community College Board. He is unopposed in the Sept. 9 election, has served since 1969, and is superintendent of the Quakerdale Home. Arthur French Jr. of Marshalltown also runs unopposed.

Eldora Area Focuses on Street Plan Stay Order

Eldora city council issued a stay order on engineering work for southeast street improvement while a second public information meeting is planned. The scope includes East from Washington to 10th and South from 17th, with cost options between concrete and asphalt, cost shifts for property owners, and $500 for a new assessment schedule.

Eldora to See New Chrysler Plymouth Dodge Dealership

A new Chrysler Plymouth Dodge truck dealership announced by James and Carolyn Braga will open in Eldora at 905 Edgington Avenue on the former lumber yard site. Construction of a 45 by 136 foot prestressed concrete showroom and garage, costing about 90000, is set to begin immediately with Smith-Gebris Construction of Iowa Falls handling the build. The Bragas bring a long auto industry background and plan to announce an opening date later.

Don’t Harvest Hot Weather Corn Too Soon Johnson Warns

Jim Johnson county extension director cautions farmers not to harvest silage while corn is still wet from hot weather. If rains come in early August a decent grain crop is possible. otherwise delays may shift harvest weeks. He stresses target 35 percent dry matter for silage and notes nitrates decline with maturation.

September 9 special questions in two area districts

Two area school districts place September 9 ballot questions. Hubbard asks levy not to exceed 67 mills per thousand for grounds, schoolhouses, debts, libraries, roads, building equipment, repairs or remodeling for future projects over 100 years. Union-Whitten asks permission to sell the former principal’s house with proceeds added to the schoolhouse fund.
