Democratic governor candidate Herschel Loveless will speak at the Hardin County Political Day on Monday August 18 the fair opening day with free grandstand admission and free grounds for children. Ambulance To Be On Display Again on the Square

The new community ambulance will be parked on the square again Saturday night with members of the local Legion post accepting donations. Last Saturday the ambulance stood before Riggert's store and donations totaled $152 for the evening.

Gorman Buys Home In Eldora Move From Iowa Falls

John J. Gorman of the Iowa State Highway Patrol has moved with his wife and daughter Julie to Eldora. They occupy the Garles house on south 15th street, purchased by the family. Frank V. Beran and son, returning from a Europe tour, sail from England and plan to reach New York August 4 and arrive home August 6.

Hardin County Board Approves Budget and Bus Route Changes

The Hardin County Board of Education met Wednesday afternoon and approved a $12,500 school budget for the new tax year. It also approved changes to bus routes serving Eldora, New Providence and Hubbard.

Old Settlers Program Joins Music and Speaker at Hibbard Park

The Old Settlers Society of Hardin county presents a Sunday program at Hibbard city park on August 10 featuring J S Russell farm editor of the Des Moines Register and Tribune, Patsy McCrabb in a cornet solo, accordion and guitar by Mr and Mrs Hans Lovig, folk songs by Mrs Lovig, Ellis Church choir selections, and Allan Pool's composition The Man Who Can Save The World. The event reflects the society's long history with sermons and afternoon programs, recalling past crowds and two day festivities.

Hubbard picnic program urged for noon park gathering

Residents are urged to bring their basket dinners for a noon park picnic. The Hubbard Chamber of Commerce cooperates to provide facilities at the park, including a public address system. Polio cases affect Cowell and Abbas families

Robert Cowell, 26, of Lawn Hill, was admitted to State University hospital with polio and listed in serious condition on Wednesday. He works for Lawn Hill Co op and previously sought treatment at Eldora hospital after sore throat and neck ache. He is married with two children. Nedra Abbas, 9, daughter of Mr and Mrs Joe Abbas near Ackley, is in a Des Moines hospital with a light polio case. Not a Hardin county case. the family resides in Franklin county.

Early denting sighting points to top corn year

Luther Williams, a farmer near New Providence, reports corn in his fields beginning to dent, an early stage usually seen in late August.
