Judge Harvey Whlenbopp presided as Hardin County District Court granted two divorces on Saturday. Donna Rae Gager of Iowa Falls obtained an absolute divorce from Michael E Gager and had her maiden name Donna Rae Stewart restored. No alimony was awarded. The couple was reported in the day’s action.
The Ministerial Association of Greater Eldora met at the Iowa Training School Monday to discuss the churchs role in today s world. Rev Carl Ehrhart presided and Rev Gordon Shipp led devotions with Revs Walter Dimmlich William Winger and John Christy in attendance. The ministers planned the annual Good Friday service to be held Friday April 16 from 4 2 30 to 2 55 p m at the First Methodist Church in Eldora.
Olive Clark of Town Falls was awarded a divorce from Harry Clark. The plaintiff received household possessions and had her maid renamed Olive Norem festor ed. The couple had been married June 19, 1964, at Nashua.
Bob Danger formerly of Mason City has moved to Eldora to serve as local salesman for Russ Harvey Pontiac Cadillac Inc of Town Falls. He previously sold cars in Mason City for three and a half years and is a Nora Springs high school graduate. The couple rented the Homer Ford residence at 1821 12th Ave.
Mildred Neubauer Barnett and her four children died last Thursday when their car struck a bridge abutment near Horton Kansas and tipped into a small creek trapping all inside. Funeral services were held at St John’s Lutheran Church in Lancaster. Burial followed in Muscotah Cemetery. Survivors include husband Norman Barnett, her father Gus Neubauer and step-mother, a sister in Parsons, twin brothers in California, a half sister in Mason City and three half brothers in California. She was born December 27 1928 near Hubbard.
With spring arriving, the Hardin County Courthouse in Eldora is getting a facelift. The clerk assessor and sheriff offices are receiving fresh coats of paint. The work is being done by Harold Khutson Sr. and Oscar Ryan.
Eldora Community Schools report hiring two new teachers for first and fifth grade for the 1965-66 year. Mrs James Moore of Whitten named fifth grade instructor. Mrs Margaret Hockert to teach one first grade class. Three current high school faculty signed contracts: Gil Christianson, Robert Barnes, and Arvin Haywood. Christianson remains head football and golf coach and PE. Barnes becomes head track coach and girls basketball coach. Haywood teaches social studies and coaches debate.
Marion L. Munsinger and Harold Shephard, Wood Auto Co salesmen in Eldora, were honored for outstanding 1964 sales at a Des Moines banquet. Ford Division’s J. T. Cavnar announced their membership in the Ford 300-500 Club, whose members average over $400,000 in automotive sales in 1964.
Ponies were ridden into Eldora Cemetery over the weekend defacing ground and damaging property. Sexton John Harms said ponies rode over graves and unused areas, calling for community respect and assistance to maintain the cemetery. A warning against further damage is printed in the Hardin County Index by the Eldora Cemetery Society.
Higar's Service Station and Cafe in Whitten owned by Mr and Mrs Virgil Higar will host an open house on Saturday April 10 per the Hardin County Index. Free coffee and doughnuts will be served. Higars recently bought the station and cafe from Mr and Mrs Howard Long.
A Pine Lake Watershed meeting chaired by Robert Hoffman and attended by committee members outlined goals for soil conservation. Experts explained terrace benefits, funding would require 10 to 20 percent farmer contribution with federal state shares, and 94 farms across 10 000 acres in Hardin and Grundy counties joined in a united land conservation effort to curb topsoil loss.
A local group plans a coordinated soil conservation project across a 10,000 acre watershed to control erosion. They aim to secure Public Law 566 and ACP program funds for terraces ponds and other practices. Five ponds exist, with Upper Pine Lake enlarged in the 1960s to 101 acres for recreation.
O'Bryon Chevrolet-Olds opens a new radiator repair department on Monday with Wade Perkins of Eldora in charge. Perkins, a former O'Bryon mechanic, previously ran Cities Service station on East Edgington Avenue and a radiator repair service. The new department will include all of Perkins' equipment and offer recoring flushing repairing and cleaning of car and truck radiators. The Cities Service station is now closed.
Harlan Bunger will finish a six week General Motors training course this week at the GM Training Center in Omaha and then join the mechanical staff at O'Bryon Chevrolet Olds.
Nightly Holy Week services run Sunday through Friday, April 11 16 at Eldora Christian Church. Sunday service features a sacred concert at p.m. with Rev. Wayne Bryant and Mrs. Peter DeCook as organist. Weeknight meetings at 7 30 p.m. include Rev. Wayne Bryant delivering messages and Harvey Reugsegger as song leader.
The annual LaSagne dinner sponsored by the Holy Name Society will be held Sunday April 25 at St Marys Catholic Church parish center Eldora. Serving from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tickets are available from Holy Name Society members.
