A national note urges fair treatment of Americans of German origin amid wartime sentiment. It warns against broad suspicion or hatred toward those with German names while supporting punishing actual spies and enemies of the government.
Ada Colgate of Madison tops the winter term honors with a 9.75 average and is now a senior in Alpha Delta Pi. Shirley Lamson of Vevay and Marjorie Lewis share second at 9.625 as Theta Delta Sigma leads sororities. Phi Gamma Delta tops the men's fraternities with 8.882. The general college average is 8.794 with seniors first in honors.
The Y M C A meeting last Thursday shifted to a general discussion of Ways and Means for the coming year. Despite depleted membership, leaders plan weekly meetings on Thursdays and Sundays from seven to eight, publish subjects on the library door, and work to boost college spirit starting in Hanover.
About fifty students and faculty attended a smoker at the Phi Delta Theta house to honor Herbert Gibbs class of 1918 as he leaves for Camp Taylor to become a private in the National Army. Gibbs, a Hanover man active in the Press Club and the orchestra, was praised by faculty and peers and wished success as he goes Over the Top with strength and luck.
