The Hanover Primary Oratorical Contest to select the up state representative next year will be held at the Presbyterian Church on Tuesday June 15 at eight o clock. Manuscripts must be submitted to judges by June 5. A new Qualifying Committee will review manuscripts to exclude substandard work, with rewrites allowed before the deadline.
Dr Millis announced the annual commencement program is complete and ready for publication. The week features national reputation speakers, musical performances by the Glee Club Sangerbund and Choral Union, and piano solos. Events run June 10 to June 16 with plays, addresses, alumni meetings, and the final Commencement Exercises at the Presbyterian church and gymnasium.
Mr E E Stacy, General Secretary of the Indiana State Y M C A, will address the Y M C A and Y W C A at the final meeting of the year on June 13. His lecture Y M C A Around the World uses stereoptical views from travels and promises high interest in a gymnasium setting.
Dr Millis will give a farewell reception to the Senior Class on next Friday evening at the school auditorium. The event will honor graduating students with light refreshments and a brief address by the speaker.
The program lists speakers Vivia Gaddy Alice Radcliffe George R. Hamilton Leonard L. Huber and Rev. W. Chalmers Covert with the conferring of degrees. Music includes Bach Fifth Nocturn piano pieces, Humoreske, Holy Art Thou, The Heavens Are Telling, Polonaise in A Major, Evening Star Wagner Liszt, Last Smile, Lucia Donizetti, and choral items by the Glee Club and Choral Union.
Dr Millis led a combined YMCA YWCA service in the YMCA hall with Ada Colgate providing music. He argued prayer proves God is alive and outlined three conditions for answered prayer: clean hands belief and praying in Christ's name. He urged self examination and emphasized prayer as divine strength guiding history.
Miss Eloise Millis returns home for the summer vacation, resuming family routines and local visits after a school term away. She plans to spend time with relatives and enjoy seasonal community events.
