The Winter term opened at the chapel with President Millis delivering an address. An excerpt outlined three conditions of successful studentship: vigor, ambition for scholarly attainment, and complete concentration. Emphasis on study over social life and athletic activity, with notes on nicotine, natural ability, and character.
Alumni banquet reveals rising interest in college literary clubs. Union Lit and Philal show progress toward accreditation while Chrestos and Zetes demonstrate strong activity with new officers elected for Philal Chrestos and Zetes led by Laura Reynolds and Frieda Bach respectively.
Manager Harry Voris faces difficulty arranging games but has secured a nine game slate. The team will host five games at Hanover and travel for four, including matchups with Moores Hill Miami University State Normal DePauw Franklin and Ohio Wesleyan. A spring baseball schedule will be announced next month.
Five Hanover men attend McCormick Seminary in Chicago while pursuing ministry. They are John S. Barns C Hl Oldfather W L Kunkle George Allison and J I Vance. Oldfather plans to study in Germany next year while remaining in college and active in work.
Earl S. Miles visited his Beta brothers at their home on Sunday. John S. Burns visited College Monday and conducted chapel services.
The Academy posted solid grades this term matching last year’s first term. Twenty students earned honor roll status with averages above nine, led by Miss Mary Hlowk at 9.75 earning Summa cum Laude. Magna cum Laude went to five students, and a list of others above nine followed in alpha order.
Mrs. W. A. Millis and Mrs. A. MM. Hadley reside in Bloomington. F. M. Fisher, aged 08, from Bethlehem, is listed at Purdue for this term.
Plans move forward to upgrade the Physics laboratory at Hanover College with a new lab space and advanced equipment including a Winshurst X ray machine and Atwood’s machine. Trustees also eye expanding gymnasium equipment and maintain a top basketball floor used for most college events in Hanover and Madison.
Besides eleven students headed for missionary work after college, Howard W. Gilbert of the Freshman class from Jeffersonville has decided to join them and pursue a mission.
