Open House Proposal Faces Next Senate Action

A formal plan for informal open houses will go to Student Senate next week, then to the Inter-Residence Council for possible adoption. The trial program would run monthly Sundays 2 30 to 4 30 PM with optional participation and doors to be locked when not involved.

Students Tackle It Monday Panel on Science and Ethics

A four faculty panel led by Chaplain Edward Huenemann explored the question What’s the problem in 1967 in an assembly addressing science ethics. Panelists Dr. Henry Van Leeuwen Dr. Keith White and Dr. Enos Pray framed intelligence values responsibility and the role of scientists in society. A student committee will continue the discussion Monday.

Center Head Outlines Student Center Board Plans

Duane Pritchett, director of the J. Graham Brown Student Center, says the forthcoming Student Center Board will assign great responsibility to students to run the center while addressing concerns over weekend student departures. He and the Student Senate plan an appointed board this year with future all-school elections, seeking broad student cooperation to ensure success.

Prank Calls Plague BPX Phone System

A campus at Hanover faced anonymous long distance calls traced to PBX lines after a December bill showed sixty six such calls. Poor trunk line performance allowed misuse, raising questions of who pays. Officials describe the dispute as a friendly argument while costs remain unconfirmed.

Mental Health Club Starts New Programs At Cragmont

The Mental Health Association reorganized under a new constitution and plans an events calendar for Cragmont State Hospital. Hospitals consent to entertain patients with singing, theatre, dance and gym groups and possibly bring patients to campus for tea or parties. Interested groups should contact unit representatives and students may work with handicapped children on Saturdays at Southwestern High School.

Selective Service Exam Dates Set

The Selective Service College Qualification Test will be given March 11, 31, and April 8. Applications to take the test must be post marked no later than Friday, Feb. 10. ROBERT McCLEW registrar stated that all men students should be planning to take the test. A bulletin, an application card, a ticket of admission, and a mailing envelope can be obtained at the Registrar's Office. The test will not be given at Madison or Hanover. The nearest locations are Louisville, Cincinnati, Indianapolis, and Bloomington.

WRA Announces Annual Carnival

The Women’s Recreation Association hosts a winter carnival next Friday night with an old-fashioned arcade sign tent setup. Co chairs Sue Tompson and Jane Judkins oversee living units and pledge classes running booths like Decorate the Clown Fortune Telling Pie Throwing and Cake Walk with prizes donated by Madison Hanover campus merchants. Tickets to play cost 5 cents at the door.
