President Wooster dies former Wooster head Dr Sylvester Scovel
Dr Sylvester F Scovel former Wooster University president and head of the American branch of the International Peace Society died Tuesday noon after a illness worsened by pneumonia over the weekend. Born December 30 1835 in Harrison county Ohio he served as pastor in Jeffersonville and Springfield before leading Wooster University from 1866 to 1890. He continued teaching and lecturing and was active in Presbyterian circles and in the peace movement becoming president of the American Peace Society chapter.
