Rain and dark gyms delay Hanover college baseball workouts under Coach Black. No first cuts or clear assessments of new players due to ongoing wet weather. Despite slow start, hopeful prospects include strong new material and a challenging southern schedule.
Miss Maria Crowe granddaughter of Rev John Finley Crowe founder of Hanover College in 1829 died in Springfield Missouri last Thursday. Her body was brought back for burial Saturday at Hanover Cemetery beside her parents. Funeral conducted by Dr Hawk at the Presbyterian church. She was sixty five and a sister and two brothers survived.
Pleasant weather brings first spring flowers to the college meadows and hillsides. Botany students plan brisk field work and have begun collecting specimens for herbaria. Early blooms include Spring, crow-foot, and a blooming hazel-nut bush with many more to follow.
Beginning this week the after noon gym classes meet at 4 o'clock. This shift sets the daily schedule for the fitness program and may affect student participation and instructor timing.
The Glee Club men arrived back in Hanover after a two week tour through western Indiana and eastern Illinois. They performed to large audiences in Bedford and Paoli and will give two more concerts to close the 1912 season, one at the Hanover Presbyterian church on April 11 and the final show at the Madison opera house.
Four essays were submitted to Prof Hadley Monday for the annual Gilpin contest. A $25 prize awaits the winner after judges evaluate relative merits. Entrants include Lawrence H Capehart Russell P Kehoe J Speed Rogers and Miss Helen Cain.
Calendar notes Y W C A convenes Tuesday at 4 PM and Y M C A at 7 PM. Zetelathean and Chrestomathean Societies meet Friday at 3 30 PM. The Christian Associations hold a joint meeting Sunday evening at 7 PM.
Philalathean and Union Literary Societies held their first spring term meetings on Tuesday evening and installed the new officers.

More entrants expected next week.
Alumni Charles Alling of Chicago faces a quirky charge over scales reporting thirty six pounds for a new arrival while D B Banta of Spencer Indiana and Professor William A Caldwell of Berkeley take on roles. A DePauw fraternity baseball league forms as Moores Hill College Life notes baseball fever with players and hosts. Elsie Perill of Kansas Wesleyan presides over the Kansas College Journalists Association.
A Butler Collegian student opinion criticizes what it calls yellow journalism in baseball reporting. It points to slang terms like twirler for pitcher and key stone bag for second base, urging a return to respectable, straightforward reporting as the season begins.
President Millis will preach the Easter sermon at Zoar church Sunday. The service is expected to draw local congregants and neighboring communities.
President Millis urged Hanover students to embrace spring by outdoor study and nature. He urged leaving indoor loafing, exploring hills, rivers, rocks and trees, to gain new insights and a broader outlook, noting solitary time yields the most benefit. He warned companionship can distract from meditations on nature’s beauty.
The Collegian notes spring brings a crop of poets wiped in the bud and suggests securing a coach for snow ball. It asks if the song Spring is Coming, for the Robins Tell Me So remains popular in the music department this spring.
