Man killed by train near Black Cat road intersection
Gretna resident Robert L. LeBlanc died when a southbound Illinois Central Gulf freight train hit his one ton truck at the Black Cat road U.S. 51 crossing. Deputies said he viewed the track but did not move. The train, traveling about 40 mph, dragged the wreckage more than a quarter mile. no other injuries were reported.

Fire destroys plywood building behind Daily Sun
A plywood structure housing plastic bags for newspaper delivery was burned behind the Daily Sun at 119 South Cypress street Sunday morning. Assistant fire chief Benny Collura said heat sealed the bags’ ends, making them useless. Damage to the building and bags totaled 2300 dollars. No injuries occurred and the cause remains undetermined.
