More conservation volunteers allowed under new forest law
President Carter signed a law removing a $100000 cap on annual volunteer reimbursements for the Volunteers in the National Forest Act of 1972. Effective Oct 1, the change lets the US Forest Service accept more volunteers aiding visitors, events, education, research, trails, and litter cleanup, with payouts funded from existing program budgets.
