Natalbany River pollution probed by state
Residents along a 15 mile Natalbany River stretch west of Independence report muddy water due to a gravel dredging operation half a mile from the Independence bridge. McKay Sand and Gravel operates the pit, with land leased from Dr. Charles Genovese. Wildlife and Fisheries officials say they will shut down noncompliant dredging, while locals seek a lasting levee to prevent future pollution.
