Old dynamite found on Jennings farm
Kenneth Clark and his wife evacuated their Jennings area farm for several hours after 127 sticks of old dynamite were found in a barn being torn down. Explosives experts disposed of the charges. Clark said his father used the dynamite to blast stumps decades ago, and his uncle had stepped on it without realizing its danger. The discovery was reported to the Jeff Davis Parish Sheriff's Office around 10 a.m. Friday.

Wetlands rules likely spare New Orleans area officials
Federal regulators plan tougher nationwide wetlands rules to curb losses, but New Orleans officials expect little impact locally. Army Corps specialist Jackie Purrington says only a few isolated-wetland permits come through annually, and the new streamlined process could shorten reviews to about 45 days. The changes end the general nationwide permit for most projects and require individual permits for wetlands of 0.5 acres or more, shifting scrutiny away from coastal Louisiana where wetlands are dense. Rep. Billy Tauzin questions effects on property rights and urges Congress review, noting potential for more compensation debates.
