Port Manchac Wins Three-Year Dredging Permit
The U S Army Corps of Engineers issued Port Manchac a dredging permit through April 30 1995 allowing dredging from the railroad bridge to the east end of the port waterfront property to 12 feet deep. Executive Director John Ware called it a big accomplishment noting the three year duration. The port plans no cost estimates yet. The meeting also covered two lawsuits by stevedorer Tangi Transport over alleged contract breaches regarding rail spur and transit shed relocation. The port attorney said responses were filed denying the allegations.

Coast Guard tests helicopter boom method for wetlands cleanup

Demonstrations show a 15 minute timeline from helicopter arrival to boom deployment, though officials note the method suits inland waterways and not open sea spills.
