Eckerd Corp shows gains in 39 weeks and stores rise
Clearwater based Jack Eckerd Corp reports a 39 week net earnings rise of 14.1 percent to 40.397 million and record nine month sales of 849.709 million. Eckerd Drug chain sales reach 776.502 million with 37.966 million in earnings as locations grow from 796 to 862 since fiscal 1978. The Byron’s Florida division posts a 6.9 percent sales gain.

LMTA elects Mashburn and Coatney to top posts in New Orleans
At the Louisiana Motor Transport Association annual convention in New Orleans, Jack Mashburn of Hammond was re elected treasurer while Doyle Coatney of Acme Truck Line Harvey became president. Donald Larousse will remain LMTA chairman of the board and George Kussman takes over as first vice president. Phillip Moore and Duncan McRae Jr. were named to vice presidents roles with E. C. Bacon remaining secretary executive director. The reshuffled leadership comes as the group seeks stronger industry wide representation in state and federal transport matters.
