Murder charges filed against two men in three-state spree
FRANKLINTON La AP two men linked to a three state crime spree are accused of three murders in Louisiana. Paul Ruiz and Earl Van Denton are held in Arkansas and face warrants for the deaths of James Cockrell Alton Wilson and Ray Jones. Cockrell 28 of Bentley was found shot near Colfax June 26. Wilson 65 and Jones 63 fishermen from Franklinton disappeared in June. Their car was found June 28 near the Arkansas site where Marvin Richie Magazine town marshal was found. The pair are also accused in the killings of Arkansas park ranger Opal James and Oklahoma taxi driver James Short. The FBI arrested Ruiz and Denton July 8 in Portland Ore after escapes from an Oklahoma prison. They were extradited to Arkansas last Tuesday. Louisiana officers plan to question them. Ruiz is held at Fort Smith and Denton at Ozark.

Religious services for Arnold Gross of Baton Rouge died at his home in Baton Rouge will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with burial in Kesthaven Gardens of Memory. He was a Bogalusa native and Ethyl Corp. welder, survived by wife Alice Chaney Gross and several family members. Pallbearers include James Hardison, Tom Gross, Emile Gross, Joe Spears, George Forbes, Horace Kennedy. Irven Shot Tucker of Greensburg died at 1:49 p.m. Tuesday in Jackson. Services set for 2:40 p.m. Sunday at Pipkins Chapel AME Church in Greensburg with burial in the church cemetery. He was 42, a Greensburg native residing in Ethel. Survived by five daughters, two stepchildren, five sisters, four brothers, grandmother Fannie Hall, and a number of nieces and nephews. preceded in death by a son.

Hackettstown Sniper Kills Six Then Takes Own Life
Emil Benoist 20, son of a former Hackettstown councilman, shot seven people along a railroad corridor in Warren County New Jersey before killing himself. Victims include David Galvin 14 Hackettstown Stephen Werner 20 Mansfield Township and Robert Visconti 35 Great Meadows. Police say Benoist fired from behind bushes with a .44 caliber rifle causing a four hour manhunt and arrest attempt. Friends attributed a Marine stint at Parris Island to a personality change and noted Benoist had boxing ties with Golden Gloves.
