Lions Mobile Glaucoma Screening Comes to Independence
The Lions Mobile Glaucoma Screening Unit will be in Independence at 105 E Railroad Ave from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday offering free tests to detect eye pressure and screen for glaucoma. No appointments needed and tests for visual acuity included by Lions volunteers led by Anthony Catalano with a doctor from the Louisiana State Association of Optometrists.

Bar Association Rejects ERA Time Extension Vote
The American Bar Association declined a proposed seven year extension for ratifying the Equal Rights Amendment and rejected a pro ERA boycott. The House of Delegates, representing about 230 000 lawyers, chose not to back lobbying for deadline extension amid ERA debate. S: Incoming ABA president S Shepherd Tate said the vote signals continued ERA support though concerns over legality of extending the deadline remain. The ERA deadline would require 38 state approvals by next March with 35 states ratified so far, three rescinding prior approval. The ABA also did not join a boycott against meetings in states without ERA passage.

Independence police report a burglary at King's Lounge on Fourth Street early Friday. Entry through a window damaged a pool table and jukebox, with about 150 dollars taken.
