Canadians receiving Old Age Security will see a 1.4 percent rise in October with the basic OAS pension at 442.66 dollars per month. GIS and Allowance amounts also rise, indexed to the Consumer Price Index, as part of Canada’s three level retirement income system alongside CPP and private savings.
Hamiota earned four blooms in the national Communities in Bloom competition matching their 2000 award. A public meeting to discuss judges results is scheduled for Monday October 1 at 7:30 p.m. in the Hamiota Community Hall. Birtle also won five blooms for the third straight year. Minnedosa teamed with Birtle in a Canada wide category, with judges noting heritage homes and active preservation in Minnedosa. Awards were announced in Greater Saint John New Brunswick on September 22 during a national ceremony recognizing communities across Canada for beautification heritage and environmental effort.
