Poison prevention guidelines for households

Remove poisonous substances from kitchens and dining areas and store them in original containers. Keep cleaners and medicines out of children's reach, preferably in locked cabinets. Do not leave a child alone with toxic substances, even briefly, and use child resistant packaging while not relying on it alone. Never treat medicine or vitamins as candy and avoid taking meds in front of children. Flush old meds, not with garbage, to prevent access by kids or pets. More than a third of childhood poisoning from toxic prescription drugs involves a grandparent's medicine.
