Rolling River Board Meets With Reports and Education Changes

The Rolling River School Division board met September 18 with reports on Grade IX Language Arts and Math tests and discussion of using test results to guide instruction. Trustees reported on Liason Committee meetings, hiring policies, and student council relations. Fuel tenders were awarded to three coops, a bus for air cadets was rejected, and bylaws for Clear Creek sale and Elton Collegiate expansion were approved.

Bowling Club Wind-Up Tournament at Hamiota

The Hamiota Bowling Club held a Wind-Up tournament on Wednesday afternoon September 18. Four lanes were used and two games played. A Pot Luck Supper followed with at least 35 in attendance. A brief meeting featured a secretary treasurer report on receipts and expenses. The president thanked the grounds committee for their year’s work. Additional matters were discussed but no action taken. This ends the season for the club.

Lions Campaign for Arthritis Research In Hamiota

Hamiota Lions Club will lead a first household canvass on October 8 1975 for The Arthritis Society. The drive funds research and therapeutic services across 100 forms of arthritis and supports University teaching hospitals and fellowship programs. Volunteers aim to advance cure prospects and better patient care nationwide.

Oak River W I Holds September Meeting in Memorial Hall

The Oak River Women's Institute met September 4 in Memorial Hall with President Beryl Burt chairing. Twelve members attended. two new members Mrs Hyndman and Mrs Mylrea were welcomed. Reports covered a busy summer including visits to the Peace Garden and attendance at Crandalls 60th anniversary.

Province to aid flood victims in western Manitoba

Premier Ed Schreyer announced an 18 million dollar program to aid flood damaged western Manitoba. The plan covers 87 percent of municipal repair costs up to 6000 for buildings, 500 for personal effects, and 7000 for transport and hay losses, effective Wednesday after signing in Winnipeg.
