World Known Figures to Discuss Canada in 1960

Three prominent figures will discuss Canada's role in industry and world trade at a three day Winnipeg conference of the Pro-Vincial Governments Trade and Industry Council opening September 26. Birtle District WI Plans Convention and Training

Mrs EV Fulton presided at the Birtle District Women's Institute Fall Meeting in Hamiota on September 14. L W Miller of Erickson was elected secretary treasurer replacing R Lelond of Ma ota. G Kirkpatrick Cardale and L Gray Kirkham's Bridge named to the program committee for the May 17 convention with one more member to be appointed. The convention theme Safety will guide the year’s WI study. Miss Maxine English and Miss F Lowes outlined proposed WI training courses. Fulton cited the advisory board meeting in Winnipeg and urged support for the Peace Garden Project, with plans for the provincial convention June 6 to 9 and the Brandon show October 31 to November 4.

Birdtail River School Board Meeting Minutes Shoal Lake 1960

The Birdtail River School Division held a meeting September 14 1960 with Trustees Fulton Selby Stimpson Carney Reynolds Killoh and Hunter and Inspector Funk present. Minutes from September 1 were approved. Correspondence included notices from Ian Brown MS T A Department of Education Municipal Board and A E Ames & Co. about inspections debentures and tenders. Carried motions include accepting D W Friesen’s tender, appointing Mrs. Wilma Miller Returning Officer for 1960 elections, standardizing division equipment, paying selected students for transportation, and plans to build a Strathclair school and possibly purchase the red brick Shoal Lake school for high school use. Meetings adjourned to call of the chairman.

The Graduation Committee set October 8 at Hamilota School Auditorium for the ceremony. A graduate is defined as a XII grade student enrolled in Birdtail River Division schools in June or someone who completed Grade MIT this year and resided in the division. Eligibility requires a complete Grade XII pass in June, and at least 75 percent in the subject for the award. Only one award per student per subject. ties go to the highest aggregate. English awards split into Drama & Poetry and Composition & Prose, with the aggregate winner eligible for one subject award.
