Winnipeg Manitoba education minister says public school enrolment decline over the last decade should stabilise this September and edge up in fall 1987. About 198 600 pupils expected with a slower decline earlier era, teachers rising to 12 200 by 1986 87 and pupil teacher ratios improving. Community college enrolments remain steady.

Hamiota Art Club Names New Secretary for Session
The Hamiota Art Club held a September 4 business meeting and nominated a new secretary. Treasurers did not attend. Classes run Thursdays at 7:30 p.m. in the high school library from Oct 2 to Nov 20, with two afternoon sessions Oct 9 and 16. Elaine Rawlings leads the first class on perspective drawing and water color. new members welcome. The next meeting is January 8 in the community room.

Leisure Club Engages Seniors In Kenton Event
Kenton Leisure Club hosted seniors from Virden Hamiota Oak River Lenore and Kenton for lawn bowling and indoor games on August 26. Lunch followed and Virden invited Kenton bowlers to join September 10. Six Kenton members attended. The club's annual tea and bazaar is set for October 17 with a grocery hampers draw and member contributions.

Class of 76 Reunion Held at Gadham Home
Hamiota alumni from the Class of 76 held a ten year reunion on August 2 1986 at Bill and Barb Gadham s home. Thirty six former students and spouses attended. After expenses ninety dollars remained and was donated to the Cancer Society to aid future reunions.

Waterfowl Crop Damage Program Extended in Manitoba
Manitoba and Canada partner to spend about 300,000 dollars this year on the Waterfowl Crop Damage Prevention Program now in its fourth year. The plan uses bait sites, lure crops, propane cannons, and cracker shells to deter ducks geese and cranes from grain fields amid delayed harvests and moist conditions in 1986. Producers are urged to monitor crops for feeding activity and contact Natural Resources offices for materials to scare off waterfowl.
