New High School Programs Roll Out Across Manitoba

Manitoba Education Minister Hon George Johnson announces new high school programs starting this month. Pilot computer science and data processing courses run at Vincent Massey Glenlawn Collegiate and Technical Vocational High School for 1967 68. Grade 11 University Entrance Algebra and Chemistry, updated English for Grade 12, and revised math and science curricula expand across grades 10 to 12.

Soil testing urged early to ensure fertilizer plan

The note stresses testing soil early to avoid lab delays from high demand and equipment breakdowns. Manitoba Schools Embrace Learn By Doing In Science Reform

Manitoba education officials announce a broad shift to active learning in science from Grades one to twelve where facilities allow. The approach emphasizes observing classifying and inferring through experiments with reduced teacher telling. New geography and history courses for Grade seven accompany expanded arts and crafts programs, affecting about 450 schools and 2,100 classes.

Hamiota Ladies Aid Reports Hospital Needs and Finances

Hamiota District Hospital Aid met in the community room with nine districts represented. The treasurer noted a balance of $1,859.42 and expenses of $2.75 while discussing kitchen knives jelly roll pans and staff cups. Eighty five adults and four babies were treated eleven major operations eleven minor procedures and twenty six out patients with five bottles of Red Cross blood used. Laundry totaled 6 074 pounds. Next meeting is September 22. Bedroom units to be purchased this year. Reports from Winnipeg convention discussed. Meeting closed with the Mispah Benediction.

It’s a Small World The way acquaintances meet abroad

During the holidays Lana Burnett and Ross Poole from the local High School Staff traveled to Florence Italy and met Ron and Vernainee Moore Keeler. A group from the district also met at Expo while touring with Jo Anne White Maureen McPhaden Joan Bridgeman and Ann Kreager.

Birdtail River School Division Board Holds August Meeting

Birdtail River School Division No. 38 held its regular meeting at Shoal Lake on August 25 1967 with Trustees Rankin Stimpson Fulton Selby Rand e and Clark and Superintendent Davison present. Minutes from August 15 were accepted and By-law 6/67 to lease CPR Property for Miniota school use received first second and third readings before final passage. The board adjourned to meet September 14 1967 at 8:00 p.m. Transportation planning dominated the discussion.
