WMS Afternoon Auxiliary meets Tuesday September 17 at 2 30 in the church parlor. Executive to lead and introduce new Study Book on Japan. Missionary month and Christian Citizenship Secretary to report.
Mr and Mrs Wilfred John ston announce the engagement of their daughter Evelyn Joyce to Donald Frederick Church son of Mrs Mary Church Strathclair The wedding is set for October 5 at 3 p m in Hamiota.
A local veterinary tale describes Dr Hodge attempting to retrieve a horse that climbed a loft ladder seeking its daily ration. The blinded horse slipped down the stairs after effort failed, injuring a foreleg and leaving Cindy, who is due in March, in the story.
The Hamiota District Hospital Aid held its August 23 meeting in Hamiota with ten districts represented. They discussed hospital needs including clothing, linen, and drapes, a housekeeper hire, and advertised post, plus pending anesthetic machine purchase and fruit and vegetable requests. Mrs Smuttell thanked members. Mrs Andrew to serve as president for remaining months.
The University of Manitoba Extension Library issues a second junior catalogue titled Young Manitoba Reads. It lists classics like Little Women and Lassie Come Home, plus non fiction and science titles for teens, with sections for pre school through older youth. Rural borrowers may join free by completing an application card.
A gathering at F. J. Coombs home on Saturday August 31st celebrated Vern and Jean McConnell moving to their new residence in Roland Manitoba. Friends presented a money gift arranged as a basket of flowers by Neb Curll and Ky. Vern thanked the community for the support.
The Annual meeting of the Hamiota District Film Council will be held Monday September 16 at 8 00 p m in the Community Centre Hamiota. Plans for the coming winter will be discussed and final arrangements made and representation from all communities urged. If interest remains low the project may be discontinued though films are viewed as educational and entertaining. Attendees will hear National Film Board plans for the coming year.
