During the 1996 growing season Manitoba Weed Supervisors will scout for herbicide resistant wild oats as part of Patch Watcham. They will collect wild oats seeds from suspicious patches across Manitoba using criteria such as irregular patch shapes not due to spray misses and patches unexplained by environmental conditions or weed development.
The Manitoba Weed Supervisors Association plans a 144 township survey in 1996 to gather information on Group One Resistant Wild Oats. Suspicious patches and suspected resistance will be tested with results available from local weed supervisors or agricultural representatives. The Patch Watch Program is funded by CMAAS.
Park Residence residents enjoy an evening of entertainment by the Hamiota Happy Hustler Square Dancers. They returned early from summer vacation to perform. The Mosaic Fashion Show is set for Sept 19 at 2:00 PM at the Community Centre.
Hamiota seniors announce two information sessions one on elder abuse and another by Dr. Rust the Optometrist. A Sept 25 talk by the dietician at Lilac Residence precedes a Sept 30 mystery tour by van from 9 to 11 am with coffee muffins and possible Belcourt ND day trip.
Late Monday, Sept 2, the Hamiota Volunteer Fire Department fought a small blaze at Murray and Lynda Mathison's farm. Chaff in the combine engine ignited and the straw caught fire. firefighters contained and extinguished the fire quickly. The combine suffered no damage and about one acre of crop was lost.
