Manitoba urges fall planting of winter wheat with Norstar variety in the southwest and Swan River areas. Target Aug 20 to Sept 15 planting to reach 3-4 leaf stages before freeze. Growers should plant on standing stubble for snow cover and reduced winter kill, seed shallowly at about 38 kg per hectare, and apply phosphate with seed then nitrogen in spring.
