Sterling R. Lyon 50, leader of Manitoba Progressive Conservatives, becomes premier-designate after Ed Schreyer’s government steps down. Lyon, a former cabinet minister in Roblin and Weir administrations, will be sworn in October 24 by Lt Gov Bud Jobin. He led PC gains in the election and has long political and legal career.

A family supper at the Community Centre on October 1 honored Red and Ruth McConnell on their Silver Anniversary. Relatives from Cincinnati and California joined, followed by an open dance and a gift from Jack and Eleanor Coombs. The Music Man provided the music.
