Westman Youth Choir to perform in Hamiota concert

Westman Youth Choir led by Derek Murphy and Earl Davis comes to Hamiota Collegiate Auditorium on Monday October 24 at 11:00 a.m. Admission is 2.00 for adults and 1.00 for students. Forty-six students from Grade 10 to 12 from Western Manitoba will perform a mix of jazz, popular musical, and madrigal songs.

Explorers Meet for Reorganization Amid New Members

The Explorer Group held a reorganizational meeting on Wednesday October 5. Five new members joined this year. Chief explorer and games organizer is Sherri Brown and secretary-treasurer is Kristi Bailey. The group plans to collect for Unicef soon.

Brandon University approves 5 million music building

Brandon University Board of Governors today approved a scaled down music building project costing 5 023 380 dollars following a September 29 1983 meeting. The board must raise 650 000 to 750 000 more within two years and will seek funding approval from the Universities Grants Commission.

Westman Senior Citizens Council Discusses Meeting Locations

Westman senior citizens gathered in Brandon on October 3 with about fifty in attendance. The group elected to keep monthly meetings in Brandon citing central location, nearby noon meals, and accessible information from members Bob Ash and John Svenson. Plans for a fall rally on October 19 at the Legion Hall were announced, with the final 1983 meeting set for November 7.

Kenton Kraftsmen 4-H Club Reorganizes at Kenton School

The Kenton Kraftsmen 4-H Club held a reorganization meeting on October 5 with 38 members at Kenton School. New officers include Colleen Bell president, Ron Draper vice president, Lisa Smith secretary, Angela Bray treasurer, Debbie Kent reporter, Vickie Hunt scrapbook, Nicole White. Head Leader Carol Forrest, Assistant Leader Lorraine Nankivell. They plan a reorganization party in Brandon and a dance on November 25 from 8:30 to 12:30. Regular meetings will be the first Wednesday of each month at 7:30 at Kenton School.

40th Anniversary Tea for Percy and Marge Davis in Hamiota

Thanksgiving Sunday marked the 40th anniversary with 240 guests signing the book and best wishes. Tea was poured by Phyllis Chappell and Dorothy Strong with bridesmaid Eva Ross nearby. relatives traveled from multiple towns to attend. The day ended with a smorgasbord and a sing along in sunshine.

Personal care home daily charge up 15 cents in Manitoba

Health Minister L L Desjardins announced an increase in the daily residential charge for personal care homes from 12.70 to 12.85 dollars effective November 1 1983. The rise applies to all residents and to hospital patients panelled and awaiting admission. The change follows higher costs in the insured Personal Care Homes Program and takes effect a month after Old Age Security pension and Guaranteed Income Supplements increases.
