Induction Service for Birtle Miniota Pastoral Charge Held

The Miniota United Church hosted the induction and commissioning of Rev. Andrew Comar and Rev. Lorraine Newton Comar on October 13 with Rev. Judith Barker of Kenton in charge. Scripture was read by David Irwin and Edith Parsons. sermon by Rev. Elgin Hall. choir anthem Lift Thine Eyes. presbytery officers Marion Fulton and Laura Long led the service.

Hamiota approves water and sewer upgrades

A major water and sewer renovation for Hamiota in western Manitoba was approved under the Manitoba Water Services Board program. Cast iron mains are deteriorating and yearly repairs are costly. The project, valued around 320000 dollars, will be cost shared between the board and the village, with work planned for 1984 85 and tenders to be issued later.

Oak River Explorers Form New Year Leadership

Oak River Explorers greeted five members at the first meeting on October 10, 1984 with two new members joining Shelley Burt Tracy Baily Meagan Forsyth Marnie Henry and Jacquie Hume. Shelley Burt was elected president Tracy Baily keeper of the log and Meagan Forsyth treasurer. They plan UNILEF canvassing on October 29 with the next meeting set for October 24 1984.

Countess of Dufferin to arrear on new stamp

The Countess of Dufferin the Prairie Provinces first locomotive will appear on a new stamp issued October 25. Canada Post will release four stamps featuring steam locomotives from 1896 to 1905 to honor the horses of yesterday in linking Canada from sea to sea. The Countess of Dufferin and the Scotia will be shown on 32 cent domestic rate stamps.

Oakner U C W Meeting Notes October 10

Eleven members and one visitor met at Mrs. Everett Westwoods home for a Thanksgiving themed program led by Mrs. Gladys Reddell and Mrs. Ella Anderson. Minutes approved. discussions included Thrift Shop donations, youth adventure in Sri Lanka, upcoming Share Fair and dinners, anniversaries, and October budget items.
