Farm Lands Ownership Act Proclaimed In Manitoba

Agriculture Minister Bill Uruski announced The Farm Lands Ownership Act took effect September 26 to curb land speculation and protect family farms. The act restricts non residents and non farm corporations to ten acres. Manitoba residents may transfer land under certain conditions. exemptions possible for religious charities and near border farmers. a board will administer rules and exemptions.

Crandall W I met on Tuesday afternoon

The Crandall W I held a meeting in the church room with Roll Call on a layette topic. Guest speaker Glenda Lawn discussed drug abuse and the dangers of over the counter and prescription medicines. Mae Taylor thanked her. visitor Vi Torfason won the gift. clothing was donated for the Battered Women's Shelter Brandon. Lunch was served by Alice Rudd and Louise Hyndman.

Country Riders host poker derby

Decker Country Riders held a poker derby Sunday Sept 30 with 27 Riders and 305 Silent Riders. Riders met at Decker rink, rode about 15 miles returning for supper served by the mothers. Winners were Cindy Knight Ist Glennis Rothnie 2nd Sharon Desrochers 3rd for Riders. Donelda Chalmer Ist Fermin Desrochers 2nd Elva Knight 3rd for Silent Riders.

Farewell held for the McLeans in Hamiota

In Hamiota and Tin Town residents gathered at Garry and Ella Campbell’s mobile home on Thursday evening September 27 to bid Ted and Bea McLean farewell. The couple move to Lot 20, 11820 MacLeod Trailer Park, Calgary. Tanis Coulson offered best wishes for retirement and Bea received a crystal ash tray. A pleasant evening of visiting and a light lunch followed.

Lawn Bowlers end season with supper and memory moment

Hamiota Lawn Bowlers wrapped up their season on October 5 with eighteen members playing two games, a potluck supper, and a moment of silence for George Cave. The club, now at thirty-one members, began May 21, hosted matches with Brandon Bir tle Strathclair and Oak River, won the A side at Kenton, and looks ahead to more members next year.

Chumah Ladies Club Meeting Highlights Community Service

The Chumah Ladies Club met at Peggy Smith’s home on Tuesday October 2 at 2 30 p m with 16 members and one visitor. Michael Smith returned home from hospital to attend with his mother Marlene. A Thanksgiving themed worship led by Group 1 under Myra Preston opened the session.

Area Representatives Sought for High School Exchange Program

ASSE International seeks volunteers to serve as Area Representatives in local communities. Recruits host families screens students for Europe study and supervises visiting European students.
