The Hamiota and District Sports Complex hosted a successful trade fair on Saturday October 9 with about 660 visitors, up from previous years, while exhibitors were about 24, down from roughly 30. A Brandon car dealership noted past sales post event. Four exhibitors registered for next year, as organizers eye the 10th fair in 2000.
Manitoba Public Insurance and the Manitoba Road Safety Coordinating Committee promote a fall speed campaign. Data show 46 percent see speeding as a local problem, 2,912 tickets issued in a Winnipeg blitz, fines from 59 to 88 dollars for speeding exits, and a warning that speeding carries demerits and higher Autopac premiums.
Crop progress remains stalled as late seeding and cold weather reduce yield prospects. Kelvin Tiller of Manitoba Crop Insurance and John Patterson of Manitoba Agriculture estimate only 50 to 60 percent of harvest is complete with many frozen crops still in fields and claims rising.
