Manitoba First Quarter Deficit Shrinks From Projections
Finance Minister Harold Gilleshammer released the 1999-2000 first quarter financial report showing expenditures of 1 535 million plus a 75 million debt retirement payment and revenue of 1 393.5 million, yielding a 216.6 million deficit. The shortfall is 117.1 million below the projected 333.7 million and 47.5 million less than the prior year as revenue rises from the Federal Health Supplement while timing differences affect debt retirement payments. The report cautions that results reflect cash flow timing and are not year-end figures. Manitoba’s own-source revenue remains on track with a steady year forecast.
