Legion Auxiliary Meeting Resumes in Hamiota
The Ladies Auxiliary to Legion Branch No 174 held its September 23 1986 monthly meeting in Hamiota with 14 members and three guests present. President Mae Taylor played piano, Vice-President Maxine Cumming chaired, and Frances Kirkpatrick read the minutes. Over 65 000 auxiliary cookbooks have sold to date and hampers raffled on Fair Day were won by Lorne Shayman Doreen Mennie and Ray Lints. Zone Commander Muriel McMannes spoke on branch activities and upcoming events for 85 86. The Petty Fund was won by Ella Mathison and refreshments followed.

Corneal transplants rise 32 percent in 1985 86 Manitoba
The Lions Eye Bank of Manitoba and Northwest Ontario reports 96 corneal transplants in 1985/86, up 32 percent from 1984/85. Eye donations rose 10 percent to 323, with about 100 offers declined. 66 transplants occurred in Manitoba and 30 corneas were sent out of province while 17 were imported.

USSR Canada sign long term grain sales pact
Soviet Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade Victor M. Ivanov and Canadian Wheat Board Minister of State Charles Mayer formalized a long term grain sales agreement. The USSR will purchase at least 25 million tonnes of Canadian wheat and feed grains from August 1986 to July 31 1999. Canada’s grain exports rely on the Soviet market, buying about a quarter of total exports. Mayer praised the continued Soviet preference for Canadian grain amid competitive international markets.
