Local and extended visits abound as families host relatives from Ontario and Winnipeg. Among upcoming events, McConnell United hosts a poultry supper and court on October 29. The Isabella Former in the Hamiota Collegiate supper will be held in the Com on Monday October 6. Miss Florence English of Hamiota Collegiate Institute has won the Isbister Scholarship of 105 dollars in tuition remission for a full University of Manitoba course within two years. The honour, announced by Education Minister Stewart E. McLean, lauds her as an outstanding Grade XI student and credits her teachers and school.
The Hamiota District Film Council re organized for the 1958 59 season with Lorne Radcliffe of Cardale named president. Members from Harding Ken ton Lavinia Decker Cardale and Hamiota attended. National Film Board films will be shown monthly to towns or schools that have a projector and projectionist. The council rejoined the Northern Manitoba Film Federation and films are available from the Agriculture Office in Hamiota.
The Student's Corner lists Grade XII student Florence English, Grade XI Doreen Kirk, Grade X Joan McPhaden, Grade IX Ralph Beamish among elected officials. Class Presidents include Gerald Mathison. grade winners are Sharon Coupland, an Huden, Doug Vensbles, and others. Committees name convenors Morley McConnell and Evelyn Mathison with various grade reps. The article notes basketball league start, dance lessons by Mr. Scott and Mr. Milne, and a large student turnout for a two step dance and waltz session followed by a roast and dancing, ending with weather interference.
