Winnipeg hosts 157th Sovereign Grand Lodge session
The 157th Sovereign Grand Lodge and 67th I A R A session gathered 2500 Rebekahs and Oddfellows from across Canada and the U S with visitors from New Zealand Chile Holland and Puerto Rico at the Winnipeg Convention Centre September 18 23. Highlights included a Sunday ceremony with 74 flags a UN Youth Pilgrimage speaker and a Manitoba Night Banquet with eye research by Dr Arthur Silverstein.

Hamiota golf club winds up season with 88 members
The Hamiota golf club held its annual fall windup on September 25 with 88 members attending. The event featured a pot luck supper organized by Hazel Westbrook and Marion Dean, a prize draw won by Joan Kirk of Rawlings Hardware, and prizes from CV Breweries and Danny McDonald of the Hamiota Hotel. Winners included Nancy O’Quinn, Jean McKinnon, Kris Wall, Clayton Wyburn, and others as part of the club’s championship and flight results. The club plans events aligned with Hamiota’s Centennial celebrations and thanks members for their support while noting Marion Dean’s departure.

Decker Country Riders Pony Club held a September 21 1983 meeting at Norma Knight's home. Officers elected were Patty Long president Scott Knight vice president Janette Lipscomb secretary Shannon Kirk treasurer and Denise Murray reporter. Members discussed joining the 4H program and a future trail ride. New members are welcome.

A C W meet Miniota hosts planning session

The Hamiota Legion Auxiliary met September 25 1983 with 13 members present. Mae Taylor chaired. Minutes from June 21 were read and adopted. Plans were made for a Seniors Birthday Party on November 8. Winners of Grocery Hampers at the Fair were Ella Anderson and Norman Sheardown. Beverly Buck and Carl Caldwell received $50 bursaries. Nora Knight won petty fund. Members will bring a gift under $1 for the next meeting. Lunch was served. next meeting is October 25.
