Memories of Early Days in Hamiota District
John Allan, the district blacksmith, recalls Scottish training and seven years in Glasgow shipyards. He describes charcoal fuel from poplar, plowshare sharpening for farmers, and a river crossing during spring floods. Family anecdotes cover blizzards, ox driving, sod and log homes, early rail impact, lime kilns, stone walls, and a 1902 wedding delay.
