Manitoba Hydro Keeps 1999 Electricity Rates Unchanged
Manitoba Hydro will not seek changes to its electricity rates for 1999, continuing a 1998 decision. Over five years rates rose 0.8 percent annually while Manitoba’s CPI grew 1.9 percent, with rates among the lowest in Canada and the world. Industrial customers faced no rate increases for almost seven years, supporting business competitiveness amid strong export demand and a projected net income of about 85 million for 1998-99. The utility, though cautious on debt, aims to reach its debt equity target by 2003 04 with rate increases well below inflation.
