Mayor Don Mennie reports a rabid skunk in the Village of Hamiota and area. Residents should ensure pets are vaccinated and kept under control. If seen, call the municipal office at 764 2779 or the village foreman at 764 2555 after hours or on weekends. Do not approach or dispose of the animal.
The Municipal Museum Inc celebrates its 10th anniversary in 1986, noting about 6,000 visitors, half from outside Miniota. It highlights school collaborations, regional and national tours, ongoing promotions, and partnerships with Westman Tourism Association and Manitoba Museums. The annual meeting is set for November 30 at 2 PM at the Drop-In Centre, inviting broad public input.
Rev George Porthan arrives from the United States to take charge of Shoal Lake Strathclair Miniota and Hamiota Anglican churches. Induction and Holy Eucharist at St Luke's Shoal Lake on Thursday November 20 officiated by Bishop John Conlin. Clergy from the diocese and Churchbridge Sask attended. A social hour followed to welcome the new rector and thank faithful lay readers for eleven months of service.
Miniota parents and teachers met on Thursday November 13 at the Miniota School to review a Life Skills program for Grade 7 to 9. Speaker Mrs Airdie Knight from Hamiota Health Centre outlined nine sessions covering adolescence, self image, communication, dating, and sex role stereotyping with sessions led by Dr J Guilfoyle and Health Educator Mrs Geraldine Guilfoyle. The group screened the film Am I Normal and noted parental consent needed for participation.
The Miniota Beef Calf Club held its re organized meeting on November 11, 1986 at 7 30 p m in the Miniota Junior High. Weighed for December 6 1986 and an appreciation supper for steer buyers is set for December 7 1986 in the Miniota Hall. The 1986 87 executive includes Nelson Moorehead Barry Stamford Sheldon Moorehead Trevor Shewfelt and Julie Clark. Members total twelve with leaders Bill Clark Ray Moorehead and Enid Haines. Next meeting is December 9 1986 at 7 30 in the Miniota Junior High.
