Operation I.D. aims at stricter tobacco sales rules in Canada
The Canadian Coalition for Responsible Tobacco Retailing launches Operation I.D. to force a zero tolerance policy on age checks for tobacco sales. About 30 000 retailers including convenience stores and pharmacies will use outreach kits and signage to enforce verification of age, with pledges to uphold laws in provinces where 18 or 19 is the age limit. The effort is backed by police chiefs and funded by major tobacco manufacturers.
