Winnipeg reports tenders have been called for expansion and renovation of the 25 bed Hamiota hospital with work expected to begin on the project shortly.

Red Cross Blood Donor Clinic in Shoal Lake December 8

A blood donor clinic is set for Shoal Lake Ukrainian Hall on December 8 from 3 to 9 p.m. Donor eligibility rules require age limits, weight thresholds, consent for minors, and health restrictions. Health minister Rene E. Toupin announced related hospital expansion plans costing about 350000 dollars for Hamiton a hospital built in 1949.

Huskies Re organize Intermediate Hockey Returns to Hamiota

The Hamiota Huskies join the North Central Hockey League for 1971-72 with Bob Brooks as president and a vacant coaching position. The league has 14 teams split east and west, with Hamiota playing 19 games, nine at home, and top four in each division advancing to playoffs.

The Birdtail River School Division No 38 board met November 18 1971 at 8 00 p m with trustees Waddell Butcher Rapley Hames Fallon Lewycky Randell Armitage Fouillard Hyndman present along with Inspector Bollman Partridge Miller and others. Motions include resignations notices budget changes bus routes and sponsorships including 50 for Western Manitoba Science Fair and advertising in Year Books. The meeting adjourned at 12 15 a m with plans to reconvene December 2 1971.

Arbitration settlement boosts Birdtail River teachers pay

On November 17 at Shoal Lake Elementary School the Birdtail River Division Association learned of a Manitoba Teachers' Society arbitration deal for 1971. The average 5.5 percent retroactive raise, plus principal and course allowances, was announced. Thirty-one teachers in Class 1 with maximum experience remain the lowest paid in the province, leading to a 1972 welfare negotiations panel.

Curling Results And Night of Service Buttons

Sunday results saw Strachan, Brooks, Jamieson and Robertson defeated as Consol Curling paused for Grey Cup weekend. A Saturday makeup session set for November 27 at 7 30 p m featured Kreager vs Brooks and Caldwell vs Strachan. A storm delayed presentations as 75 attendees enjoyed supper and long service buttons for 25 50 60 and 70 year members plus a 70 year Forester honor for John Gunson.

Explorers Meet Oak River Ceremony Opens Meeting

The group held a regular opening with roll call of 12 members and one visitor. Minutes of the last meeting were read. The next meeting was scheduled for Monday November 22. Dawn Kirkpatrick Cindy and Donna Pennington led worship. A story was read and Youth Service was discussed. The meeting closed with ceremonies.

UCW Meet at Mrs Neill Home In Oak River

Unit 2 of the UCW met at Mrs. Neill’s home Tuesday at 8 p.m. with 10 members present and one visitor. Miss L Bowman opened with the UCW Creed. Mrs. Isobel Paddock and Miss Jean Skinner led the meeting and gave the worship. A Christmas program on Africa followed and prayers closed the session. A lovely lunch was served.

The Ladies Club of Scotia held its annual meeting at Mrs H McKinnon’s home with 13 members and 1 guest. Remarks covered scripture readings, a remembrance topic, minutes, correspondence, and Christmas boxes. Bake sale proceeds totaled 80.60 with plans for catering a Smith wedding and holiday boxes for Senior Citizens.
