Hamiota marks its 100th Curling Bonspiel this spring celebrating community sport and history. Miniota plans to mark its 100th in 1998 as the region reflects on curling’s social and physical benefits and welcomes newcomers as spares. The Annual Christmas Dinner and Dance returns December 14 at the Community Centre, hosted by the Chamber of Commerce for all residents.
Tickets for a community event are available at local businesses and the recreation office. The program runs from 6:30 p.m. supper at 7:00, social hour at 8:00, and a 9:00 p.m. dance headlined by Big Duck Cadillac. A youth hockey tactice meeting is set for November 18 with a 6:15 parents meeting to set fees and appoint kitchen and sports complex board representatives. The A P P L E literacy survey prompts interest in volunteer or participant training with free assistance via the recreation office.
Recreation Director Gwen Snell invites families to a free event at Hamiota Elementary School on Saturday December 7 from 2:00 to 3:30 PM. Guest storyteller Rick McNair will share magical tales after leading Christmas games and songs with help from local Christmas helpers. Co sponsored by the Hamiota Chamber of Commerce and Midwest Recreation District.
