McConnell Beef Club marks 60 years in 4 H movement
The McConnell Beef Club in Manito celebrates its 60th anniversary in 1993, the oldest 4-H club in the area. It began as a swine club in 1925 under F Gordon Killoh, switched to beef in 1933, and held its first Achievement Day in McConnell on July 31, 1933 with 11 members showing steers. The club has fluctuated in size, currently featuring nine members and four leaders. It emphasizes leadership, public speaking, demonstrations, and judging, with members earning trips and gold watches for achievement, sustained by strong community and leader dedication.
