School Division Plans Major Additions At Hamiota And Birtle
The Building Projects Committee approved the Not Ice of Intent to Build for Birdtail River School Division. Proposals include expanded facilities at Hamiota with new classrooms laboratories and a gym plus a library conversion and a 9 000 square foot minimum area and at Birtle eight classrooms two laboratories a library center and a new gym totaling about 27 500 square feet. A unitary division may gain 100 percent capital costs if the vote passes under the foundation program. otherwise a debenture and continued use of temporary structures are possible options.

November Women’s Institute meeting reports progress and plans
The Manitoba based program titled The Future Paradise or Purgatory guided a discussion on racial intermingling and education. Members approved memorials for two deceased life members, sent ten dollars to Peace Gardens, and planned a December bake sale. The Red Cross box was completed and another begun. The dinner for 4H Leaders was praised. A request was made for the missing roll of paper and a drop leaf table.

The McConnell Cooperative Elevator Association met at 8 p.m. on November 7 in the Community Halls. Twenty nine members attended. The auditors report showed net grain handling of 278000 bushels for 1966-67 with income 27764 and expenses 20450, yielding a 7314 surplus. Directors named for the coming year include Norman Brown, Frank McPhaden, Harvey Pollock, Don McConnell, Jim Emerson, Norman Little and Jim Moffat. Norman Little elected delegate. Lunch by UCW women.

Hamiota Pitlochry Hospital Guild Annual Meeting
The Hamiota and Pitlochry Hospital Guild held its annual meeting on October 30. President Mrs. J Scorgie opened with a tribute to pioneer organizers from 1908. The group reported receipts of 1318.25 and expenditures of 310.44 from the fair, with about 318 families contributing meals. A $260 donation to Hamiota Hospital Ladies Aid No. 7A and a $30 fruit donation were noted. Total year receipts were 1403.95 and expenditures 973.67. Auditor W D Rivers was thanked and reappointed for 1967. Officers elected: President Mrs J Scorgie, Assistant Pres Mrs Gordon Allan, Secretary Mrs Alex Park, Treasurer Mrs J Maitland, Buying Committee Mrs Irene Beamish, Mrs J E Hudson. Senior Citizens Begin Activities in Hamio ta District
The first Wednesday in November starts weekly senior meetings led by John Clark with Wes Rivers assisting. Last year 68 members attended an average of 40, with 25 programs and five special events including Christmas and parties. McConnell Bros. Florists supplied gratis corsages, and free hall rent is provided by the Canadian Order of Foresters.

Remembrance Day Service Held in Hamiota Church
Remembrance Day services were held November 11, 1967 at Hamiota United Church with Rev. Ralph Clark as minister and guest speaker. Legion No. 174 members, Ladies Auxiliary, Boy Scouts and Cubs attended as wreaths were laid at the cenotaph. Royce Riddell sounded reveille and taps while flag bearers and the raised flag were led by Wm. Matthews.

Alfred J. Gray age 65 of Camelot Apts Winnipeg died November 8 1967 at Winnipeg General Hospital. Survived by wife Maxe and siblings Harvey Hazel Georgina. Funeral held November 10 at Clark Leatherdale with interment Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. Gray taught in Saskatoon and Churchbridge before joining Success Business College and later Dale Carnegie Courses.
