Manitoba figures show driving while impaired and related offences rise sharply through nine months of 1969. Total convictions reached 1,692 versus 1,063 last year with 562 impaired driving cases and 961 blood alcohol content violations. Minister Borowski credits stricter Criminal Code enforcement for the increase and the hoped reduction in drinking driver incidents.
A miscellaneous shower for Bev McConnell bride elect of November 14 was held at the Lavinia Community Centre. Mrs. Ellen Milne played piano as Bev was escorted by her mother Mrs. Linda Mathison and others, gifts were given, poems sung, and over 80 guests attended.
The Hospital Guild held its Annual Halloween Tea and Bake Sale plus a canned food drive on Saturday October 31. Proceeds reached $136 with an extra $33 from fruit and vegetables. Mrs. D. Griffiths won the Grocery Hamper and Mrs. M. Barr took the chocolates.
The Birdtail River School Division No. 38 trustees met at Crandall on November 5 1970 at 8 00 p m with ten members present. The board discussed damages claims for a temporary rental unit, teacher compensation, collective bargaining with the Manitoba Teachers Society and various school issues including facility adaptations, parking graveling, staff reports, student evaluation, and transport policies.
The 4H Pony Club held its reorganizational meeting on November 2 at 7 30 p m in Hamiota Collegiate. Officers for 1971 include President Wendy Cochrane and Vice President Sally Robinson. Meetings are set for the first and third Mondays of each month during winter.
The November meeting of the Ladies Club convened on November 4 at Doris Butler’s home with fifteen members. Group 2 led worship, Janie Lewis led business, and readings on Remembrance Day were shared by Doris Pollock and Pearl Kidd.
The W I met at Mrs Ray Lints home on Wednesday November 4 with Mrs Raymond Foxton presiding. Mrs N Lints reported 308 history books sold to date and a bazaar planned for November. Donna Lints won the surprise parcel. 14 members attended.
The Oak River Women’s Institute met November 5 with Mrs. W M Hedley presiding. They planned a Memorial Hall Rally for Friday the 13th at 2 30 pm and finalized the Annual Tea Bazaar and Bake Sale. Mrs Cliff Burt reported on Brandon Leadership School. Roll Call favored Pennies for Friendship. A social lunch followed.
Isabella Elva Young, bride elect, was guest of honor at a miscellan eous shower at Isabella Community Centre on Friday evening. Ladies presented with corsages. Elva and family thanked guests and invited visits to their new home in Flin Flon. wedding set for November 14 at Isabella United Church with Murray Knight of Flin Flon.
