Grade nine student Liana Gardham visited Super Thrifty Drug Mart on Wednesday November 7 to learn daily routines from Pharmacist George McGhee and Vivian Martinussen. Other students spent the day at Redfern Farm Services Caldwell Motors Classic Country Hair Salon Hamiota Co op and the Hamiota Municipal Office.

Premium Park expands hog operation and promises growth in Hamiota

Premium Pork Canada Ltd and Geneticore Canada Inc announced the sale of 3000 hogs to be shipped to Mexico in early November. The operation began with two 2500 sow multiplication barns near Hamiota, Centec opened in December 2000 and Gateway followed months later. Ed Bretour of Hamiota’s Economic Development notes the town’s name could draw international investment as visitors look at Premium Pork operations.

McDonald Receives Prix Manitoba for Community Service

Neil McDonald of Hamiota is named Distinguished Service Volunteer of Manitoba for 2001 at the Prix Manitoba Awards. The honor, presented in Brandon by Culture Minister Ron Lemieux, recognizes McDonald's 30 plus years of volunteer work with groups including the Hamiota Red Sox and local service clubs.
