On Monday evening October 20 a gathering at the home of Mr and Mrs Wilf Shayman marked their silver anniversary. Glen Stewart delivered greetings while Eleanor McConnell presented a decorator wall clock. The couple thanked guests then all shared a social hour and lunch.
Manitoba Finance Minister Don Craik announced a 75 million loan from Alberta Heritage Fund for Manitoba Hydro and the Manitoba Telephone System. The ten year debentures carry 9 percent coupon, priced to yield 9.85 percent.
Oak River District Cub Scouts and Ventures organized a flea mart at Miniota Rink on October 1. Participants hailed from Virden Miniota Birtle Hamiota Rivers and nearby towns with tables rented by groups from Saskatchewan and Manitoba. The event raised over 500 dollars as thanks go to volunteers and the Community Centre for support.
On October 29 1978 at 1 45 p m thirty four members of the Kreager Robertson clan and Mrs Ross Robertson gathered to mark their twenty fifth anniversary with Mona Hyde delivering an address recalling the couple's courtship and life. Isabella Clifford presented a money gift.
The November meeting at Peggy Smith’s home drew eighteen members. Devotional theme Faith ful unto Death was shared. Reports given, minutes read, and an executive review of meal prices planned. Catering for Houck 50th anniversary supper outlined. Peggy Smith to present slides from England and Scotland trip. Hostesses served lunch.
