The Southwest Conservation Centre launches in Melita to streamline forest and wildlife services for southwestern Manitobans. It also houses head office for the Manitoba Agro Woodlot Program aiding landowners in woodlot improvements with staff in Killarney and Minnedosa.
In fall farmers burn stubble but fires can escape. On Friday October 23 Glen Bridge had a blaze that spread to ten round bales in an adjacent field. Neighbors and the Hamiota Volunteer Fire Department kept the fire under control using fire guards and water from a moving pumper. No further damage occurred. On Saturday October 24 Bill Rutherford’s combine fire was contained with a extinguisher despite intense heat and smoking belts. the clutch area suffered damage but the rest of the machine was unharmed.
Annual event in Hamiota features a Dec 4 concert at Hamiota Collegiate Auditorium with a following candy sale and a Dec 5 auction at Hamiota Community Hall. Donations accepted via Jim Routledge home by Dec 3 and hall drop by Dec 5 noon. Gift receipts apply only to cash donations. Proceeds aid Westman area families.
