Crop Insurance advises no coverage for aircraft seeded crops unless inspected and accepted by the Manitoba agency. Insured farmers must report seeded acreage for inspection after emergence. Acreage reports with selected coverage levels are mailed in June. return by June 30, 1979 to avoid a $20 fee.
Judy Little opens as Summer Co-ordinator for recreation districts under the Provincial program. Programs include Playgrounds, T Ball, Water ski clinics, Drama, Soccer, Westman Games, Frisbee, and more. Soccer sees about 40 participants with sessions starting May 24 at the fairgrounds and remaining sessions on May 26 29 and 31. Community volunteers praised as drama plans advance with Joyce Rushton directing You're a Good Man Charlie Brown and a cast call issued via the Recreation Office for roles including Charlie Brown Snoopy Linus Schroeder Lucy and pianist.
The Oak River May meeting at president Betty Henrys home had 9 members. Minutes were read, Winnie McCallum reported finances, a June 9 1979 garage sale was planned with rain venue options, proceeds to a local cause, and a Salvation Army canvass is scheduled. A pot luck lunch followed with Legion men joining.
Winnipeg ministry approves four thousand dollars in grants for two annual tourism attractions. Corn and Apple Festival at Morden receives fifteen hundred dollars, Turtle Derby at Boissevain two thousand five hundred. Grants support non profit, non sporting events with at least one full day, aiming to attract out of province visitors.
Mid West Recreation District announces Wednesday 7 30 p m fastball games featuring Miniota Shoal Lake Isabella Virden Hamiota 21 and under and the Hamiota Ladies with 10 games per team five at home five away starting May 30. A slow pitch league formed last year may return with eight teams. An umpires clinic is set for June 9 at the Birtle Collegiate. registration covers the rule book.
